A variety of programs, techniques, methods, and materials support individualized instruction. ECE programs serve students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities, Mild Mental Disabilities, Other Health Impairments, Emotional Behavioral Disabilities, Autism, Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment, Learning Disabilities, Social Communication or combinations.

Assignments may change during a school year or between years as student and classroom needs evolve.

Recognizes that all responsibilities are supportive. Assists in implementing each student’s Individual Education Plan. Helps establish and maintain a pleasant, safe, and structured learning environment. Displays willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.

• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• Passing score on the Kentucky Para educator Exam (KPA) or 48 college semester hours.
• Willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.
• Physical ability and willingness to assist with students’ physical needs such as positioning, toileting, and lifting.
• Willingness to attend district ECE in‑service professional development.

If your highest education is High School or GED you must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment Exam. The exam is free and you have three chances to obtain a passing score.
