Stipends

Critical Need Stipend: USD 3.50 per hour & ECE Instructional Assistant Stipend: USD 1.00 per hour

As per Board-approved  salary placement rules/schedules.

Exceptional Child Education Programs

Programs are designed to meet the needs of students whose learning approaches differ from their peers. The school district commits to high‑quality education for students with disabilities. A variety of programs, techniques, methods, and materials support individualized instruction. ECE programs serve students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities, Mild Mental Disabilities, Other Health Impairments, Emotional Behavioral Disabilities, Autism, Visual Impairment, Hearing Impairment, Learning Disabilities, Social Communication or combinations.

Assignments may change during a school year or between years as student and classroom needs evolve.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

Recognizes that all responsibilities are supportive. Assists in implementing each student’s Individual Education Plan. Helps establish and maintain a pleasant, safe, and structured learning environment. Displays willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D.
  • Passing score on the Kentucky Para educator Exam (KPA) or 48 college semester hours.
  • Willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.
  • Physical ability and willingness to assist with students’ physical needs such as positioning, toileting, and lifting.
  • Willingness to attend district ECE in‑service professional development.

If your highest education is High School or GED you must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment Exam. The exam is free and you have three chances to obtain a passing score. For assistance with studying, use the KPA Study Guide and/or sign up for the KPA Prep Class with JCPS Adult Education. Sign up here and select "I want KPA classes" for more information.

To schedule the KPA test, see the Adult Ed department resources. Upon completion, you will receive a confirmation email with location, address, and parking instructions.
