ECE Instructional Assistant Stipend: $1.00 per hour
Information about Exceptional Child Education (ECE)Exceptional Child Education programs are designed to meet the needs of students whose approach to learning is different from that of peers. The school district provides high-quality education for students with disabilities, using a variety of programs, techniques, methods, and materials for individualized instruction. Assignments may include students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities (MSD), Mild Mental Disabilities (MMD), Other Health Impairments (OHI), Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD), Autism (AUT), Visual Impairment (VI), Hearing Impairment (HI), Learning Disabilities (LD), Social Communication or a combination of these areas.
Assignment changes may occur during a school year or between school years based on needs and allocations.
Recognizes that all responsibilities are essentially supportive. Assists in implementing each student’s individual education plan. Helps establish and maintain a pleasant, safe, and structured learning environment. Demonstrates willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Passing score on the Kentucky Para educator Exam (KPA) or 48 college semester hours
- Willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities
- Physical ability and willingness to assist with physical needs of students (e.g., positioning, toileting, lifting)
- Willingness to attend district ECE in-service for professional growth
If your highest education is High School or GED you must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment (KPA). The exam is free and you have three chances to obtain a passing score. Assistance with studying for this assessment is available through KPA Study Guide and/or KPA Prep Class with JCPS Adult Education. You can sign up here and select "I want KPA classes".
