Salary Range: $24.52 /hr - $26.96 /hr
Critical Need Stipend: $3.50 per hour & ECE Instructional Assistant Stipend $1.00 per hour
Information about Exceptional Child Education (ECE)Exceptional Child Education programs meet the needs of students whose learning approaches differ from their peers. Districts provide high-quality education for students with disabilities through a range of programs, techniques, and materials for individualized instruction. ECE programs serve students with disabilities in comprehensive and special education programs and facilities. Assignments may include students with Moderate to Severe Disabilities (MSD), Mild Mental Disabilities (MMD), Other Health Impairments (OHI), Emotional Behavioral Disabilities (EBD), Autism (AUT), Visual Impairment (VI), Hearing Impairment (HI), Learning Disabilities (LD), and Social Communication needs, or a combination of these.
Scopeof Responsibilities
Responsibilities are primarily supportive. Assist in implementing each student’s individual education plan. Help establish and maintain a pleasant, safe, and structured learning environment. Demonstrate willingness and ability to work with students with disabilities.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Passing score on the Kentucky Para educator Exam (KPA) or 48 college semester hours.
- Willingness and aptitude to work with students with disabilities
- Physical ability to assist with physical needs of students (positioning, toileting, lifting)
- Willingness to attend district ECE in-service for professional growth
Note on KPA Eligibility: If your highest education is High School or GED you must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment Exam. The exam is free and you have three attempts. For study assistance, refer to the KPA Study Guide or sign up for the KPA Prep Class with JCPS Adult Education. Additional information about the class and scheduling is available through the Adult Education program.
