Under the direction of the supervising teacher or Principal, the instructional assistant participates as an integral member of the instructional program including tutoring students, assisting in the documentation of pupil progress, preparation and organization of materials and equipment, and/or instructing. Also, assisting bus drivers in supervising, loading, and unloading students.
Early Childhood Program:
Dedicated staff provide a strong start to students' careers, preparing them for transition to elementary school, building confidence and skills for personal success and school readiness. Parent involvement and participation are encouraged, fostered, and appreciated. Early Childhood programs lead to greater success in school.

Schedule:
1A Grade 7 – Beginning step 5 - Salary Range: $22.65/hr – $24.85/hr
- Early Childhood Instructional Assistant Stipend: $1.00/hr
- Working Calendar: 187 days / 7.0 hours
- Assist in the instructional program under supervising teacher or principal.
- Tutor students.
- Assist in documentation of pupil progress.
- Prepare and organize materials and equipment.
- Instruct students as required.
- Assist bus drivers in supervising, loading, and unloading students.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Passing score on the Kentucky Para‑educator Assessment or 48 college semester hours.
- Demonstrated competent language skills, including the ability to read and understand meanings of words and associated ideas and to use them effectively.
- Successful experience working with children, individually or in groups.
- Program‑specific certifications/training.
- All required trainings completed within 90 days of employment, including bus monitoring training.
If your highest education is high school or GED, you must take and pass the Kentucky Para educator Assessment Exam. The exam is free and you have three chances to obtain a passing score. Refer to the KPA Study Guide and/or sign up for the KPA Prep Class with JCPS Adult Education. Schedule to take the KPA test with our Adult Ed department online.
