Senior Solar Farm Technician

Full‑time, permanent position at RWE Americas, LLC.

Job Overview

The Senior Solar Farm Technician is responsible for on‑site safety and the generation of renewable energy across all plants in the assigned region. The Technician operates, maintains, and monitors solar assets and energy infrastructure projects in close collaboration with RWE Americas' Operators, Engineers, Asset Managers, Project Managers, and on‑site Subcontractors.

The Technician performs, supervises, and coordinates the safe execution of daily operation, planned and corrective maintenance, and event response for all RWE Americas assets according to applicable contracts, agreements, and procedures. This includes operating one or more plants as a home base, as well as performing, supervising, and coordinating operations, maintenance, and event responses at all other plants assigned in the region.

The Technician may also oversee and coordinate third‑party contractors on‑site and ensures all activities are in compliance with industry best practices, safety practices, RWE procedures, plans, guidelines, and legal requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Plant Operations
    • Oversee production of renewable energy at all plants in the region, ensuring plants operate within design parameters safely and efficiently.
    • Monitor production to ensure plants meet performance expectations.
    • Coordinate and resolve operational abnormalities.
  • Plant Maintenance
    • Supervise and coordinate maintenance and repair of plant components, including BOP, troubleshoot and resolve problems.
    • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance as required by contracts and procedures to ensure long‑term reliability and risk minimization.
  • Technical Support
    • Perform operational analysis to support Asset Management and Project Development.
    • Create, review, and distribute daily, weekly, and monthly operational reports.
  • Technical Expertise
    • Stay abreast of regulations, codes, and standards relevant to the industry.
    • Develop relationships with suppliers for beneficial synergies.
  • General
    • Manage contractors as required, act as the local RWE liaison, develop long‑range plans, and work with local civic groups as needed.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate degree in engineering or related field preferred (accredited U.S. school).
  • NABCEP Certification or Electrical License preferred.
  • Unrestricted driver license in good standing.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in a related renewable energy field.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in power plant operations environment.
  • Minimum 6 years' experience in troubleshooting and maintenance, or supervising maintenance of medium voltage, high voltage, collection, transmission, and substation systems.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Renewable energy experience, preferably solar, preferred.
  • Competence in power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance, or substation maintenance.
  • Competent in power plant safety protocols, electrical safety, and understanding the NEC.
  • Knowledge of and experience with hand and power tools.
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work within tight deadlines and independently as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as assigned.
  • Computer proficiency: routine operation of computer/tablet and office productivity tools.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Complete all required training satisfactorily and within the timeframe.
  • First aid/CPR/AED knowledge.
  • OSHA Certified.
  • Shift work experience.
  • Trainable and adaptable to new technologies and methods.
  • Ownership mindset and proactive in identifying corrective work opportunities.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to push/pull/lift tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work safely in extreme environments.
  • Ability to walk, climb, and stand extensively during the workday.
  • Office‑based role with travel to other RWE Americas offices and field locations.
  • Must be able to sit, walk, or stand for long durations.
