Field Service Engineer – Data Center

The opportunity

At Hitachi Energy, Field Service Engineers for Data Centers play a vital role in transformer lifecycle management. You’ll support critical infrastructure such as data centers and utility networks by applying your technical skills to advanced transformer technology and integrated hardware‑software solutions, ensuring grid reliability and efficiency. This position goes beyond field work—it’s an opportunity to build customer relationships, identify service needs, and improve energy systems.

You’ll lead on‑site projects, solve technical issues, and collaborate with teams to deliver results, including sensor installation and electrical testing that support communities nationwide.

This position is eligible for a sign‑on bonus contingent upon successful completion of the hiring process, onboarding requirements, and execution of the sign‑on bonus agreement with terms and conditions.

• Deliver remote and on‑site service for installation, maintenance, and advanced support.
• Install transformer hardware, sensors, and accessories.
• Configure and validate physical communication connectivity.
• Integrate and test transformer software, including firmware upgrades.
• Serve as the on‑site contact for customers and subcontractors.
• Strategically assign tasks to reduce costs and project time.
• Test SEL relays using Omicron relay test sets or equivalent.
• Employ standard industrial communication protocols, including Modbus and BACnet.
• Perform protection relay testing (such as SEL) at specified settings using an Omicron relay test set or comparable equipment.
• Conduct electrical tests on transformers, such as bushing power factor and capacitance, core megger, TTR, winding resistance, insulation power factor, and insulation resistance.
• Ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

• Associate degree with 3 years of professional experience or High School Diploma/GED with 5 years of professional experience.
• Physically fit for duty and fieldwork.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office tools.
• Experience in data center fieldwork is a plus.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel up to 85%.
• Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
