Lead Mechanical VAVE Engineer

Location: Greater Logansport, IN (Relocation assistance provided)

Salary: $120/k to $140/K per year plus Bonus and additional Benefits For Example:

Overview

The Lead Mechanical VAVE Engineer drives Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives across vehicle platforms. This role focuses on cost optimization, design innovation, and delivering high-quality, manufacturable engineering solutions aligned with business goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end VA/VE initiatives from concept to production
  • Design and develop vehicle conversions using CAD tools (Inventor)
  • Engineer and integrate vehicle systems (structures, suspensions, mechanisms, closures)
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities while improving performance and quality
  • Build and manage a pipeline of design optimization ideas
  • Align design, procurement, and validation with APQP/stage-gate processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, etc.)
  • Drive standardization, common design strategies, and low-cost alternatives
  • Support prototype development and validation activities
  • Lead design reviews and ensure targets for cost, quality, and timing are met
  • Continuously improve engineering processes and product designs
Required Skills & Expertise
  • Strong experience in vehicle system design and integration
  • Expertise in structural design, sheet metal, welding, and manufacturing processes
  • Knowledge of automotive systems (fuel, braking, cooling, exhaust)
  • Proficiency in FEA, DFMEA/PFMEA, DFM/DFA, GD&T, DOE, and tolerance stack-up
  • Solid material selection and cost optimization skills
  • Experience with CAD tools (Inventor, AutoCAD) and ERP systems
  • Strong problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills
Qualifications
  • 4+ years of automotive mechanical design experience
  • Experience with vehicle launch or assembly environment (preferred)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and dimensional management
  • Experience with steel and aluminum component design
