At the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Environmental Specialist 2 works within the Division of Materials and Waste Management (DMWM), overseeing solid waste management facilities across Northwest Ohio. The role combines technical expertise with on‑site inspections to protect the environment and public health.
Responsibilities- Lead engineering and technical reviews for solid waste facilities, including municipal solid waste, construction and demolition debris, industrial landfills, and waste transfer stations.
- Conduct field inspections of regulated facilities to ensure compliance with federal and state environmental laws and to investigate complaints.
- Review permit applications, engineering documents, and technical reports for accuracy, completeness and regulatory compliance.
- Provide technical assistance to public health boards, local and municipal officials, county commissioners and industry professionals regarding solid waste rules, operational best practices and siting proposals.
- Support and coordinate enforcement activities for non‑compliant facilities, including documentation, compliance follow‑up and coordination with regulatory partners.
- Engineering preferred: 12 months as Environmental Specialist 1 or 4‑year training/experience in an engineering field (Sanitary, Geotechnical, Civil, Environmental, Agricultural or Chemical) commensurate with duties.
- OR a baccalaureate degree in one of the aforementioned engineering disciplines.
