Welding Engineering Unit Manager, Automations and Robotic Operations
Location:
Barberton, Ohio
- Lead a diverse group of engineers, technicians and specialists within the Welding Engineering department to achieve company and customer commitments related to fabrication of Naval Nuclear components.
- Ensure the W.E. unit aligns with company objectives, including development, staffing, execution and overall quality of weld processes, automation systems, and associated operations.
- Manage design and development of control systems and software programs and drive implementation and optimization of automation processes.
- Coordinate and control robotic and automation engineer/technician job functions to provide uniform, coordinated direction of the department’s objectives.
- Assure staffing levels to support administrative and shop management needs, including personnel proposal, requisitioning, interviewing and hiring activities.
- Work collaboratively and take the lead to assure welding equipment and welding cells can be operated safely and according to internal and industry standards.
- Review engineering drawings, detailed equipment specifications, and program code to support fabrication needs.
- Collaborate with departments to execute operational readiness activities such as equipment preparation, weld process development, weld/welder qualifications, training, testing and other aspects associated with robotic operations and automation systems.
- Collaborate with other departments to identify funding needs, constraints, equipment/parameter problems and ensure timely completion of weld and automation processes relative to schedule requirements, including maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with welding processes and procedures in accordance with contract requirements and support process and procedure development.
- Assess weld process operations and robotic/automation systems performance and drive continuous improvement projects that enhance process efficiency and first‑time quality.
- Oversee and manage daily welding operations and automation equipment on the shop floor and support procurement of capital, tooling and automation projects.
- Train and mentor the team to ensure compliance with company procedures, policies, and technical requirements.
- B.S. in Welding Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Automation Engineering, or equivalent experience providing required proficiencies.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a DOE‑issued Security Clearance.
- Minimum four years of welding operations, robotics, and/or automation engineering experience with demonstrated leadership.
- Strong communication and coordination skills; interest in multidisciplinary collaboration in component manufacture, process design and specification development.
- Solid understanding of manufacturing/welding techniques and application of automation systems.
- Experience supervising or providing direct oversight to engineers and design professionals.
- Experience with Comau, Yaskawa, KUKA, or similar robotic systems.
- Knowledge of robotic programming languages and experience with Siemens controls.
- Experience with PLC‑controlled automation and issue diagnosis in continuous process or production environments.
- Understanding of robotic safety standards and risk assessments.
- Industrial electrical hands‑on experience and troubleshooting skills, including 480V 3‑phase, 110
VAC, and 24
VDC systems (ideal).
Pay: $[[]] – $[[]] per year. The base salary may vary based on local market factors and individual qualifications. Total compensation may include an annual cash incentive and a full range of medical, retirement and other benefits.
