Overview
City of Columbus - Water and Power, Division of Water - HCWP, is looking to fill a vacancy within the Hap Cremean Water Plant. This full-time position will supervise, operate and staff the Hap Cremean Water Plant (HCWP) processing and pumping facility on an assigned shift. The Operator II will collect and analyze water samples, adjust chemical dosages and processes to meet regulatory and division requirements, maintain accurate logs and records of shift operations, and monitor plant equipment and data via SCADA systems.
The role includes emergencies response, chemical inventory management, and ensuring OEPA certification standards are met for the facility.
- Operate and supervise plant staff on an assigned shift; monitor and control water treatment processes.
- Operate a computerized SCADA system to control and monitor flow and chemical processing; respond to emergencies (chemical spills/leaks, electrical outages, flooding, severe weather).
- Collect and analyze water samples on and off plant grounds; observe treatment processes to determine changes needed in the treatment plan.
- Conduct laboratory analyses, adjust chemical dosages, and maintain OEPA Full Lab certification for the plant; perform laboratory equipment maintenance and calibrations.
- Monitor and maintain chemical inventories; ensure proper delivery, unloading, and storage of chemicals per established protocol.
- Maintain legible, accurate shift logs and records of readings (chemical levels, flow rates, laboratory data).
- Develop and follow standard operating procedures; provide training on equipment, procedures, and safety; coordinate with other facilities and plant sections.
- May serve as Backup Operator of Record and supervise plant employees on an assigned shift.
- Scheduled Shift: Third Shift from Friday–Tuesday 11:00pm–7:00am

Schedule:
Monday–Friday 7:00am–3:00pm
- Valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) State of Ohio Class II or higher Water Supply Operator Certificate for water treatment works.
- Valid driver’s license.
- EPA State of Ohio Full Laboratory Certificate with full laboratory approval for the assigned water treatment facility by the completion of the probationary period.
- Pre-employment drug screening and BCI&I background check are required if selected.
- Salary Range: $33.03–$49.54/hr.
