Project Engineer

As a Project Engineer, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing a variety of capital improvement projects for Aqua New Jersey’s water and wastewater systems. You will play a vital role in ensuring the sustainability and improvement of water and wastewater systems across the state. You will be managing multiple projects simultaneously and must be comfortable with both office-based and field-based work.

In addition, this role will be responsible for ensuring water and wastewater plants and systems are compliant with environmental regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Responsible for planning engineering projects in multiple divisions.
  • Manage the design of both water and sewer improvement projects such as tanks, boosters, lift stations, WTP projects, WWTP projects, regulating vaults, etc. as needed.
  • Work with hydraulic modeling team to evaluate and mitigate system-wide challenges.
  • Responsible for submittal of any required permits and approvals. Prepare and/or supervise the permit applications for selected projects and ensure all required permits and approvals are obtained.
  • Coordinate and manage construction projects including bidding, scheduling, and cost estimating. Enforce contract requirements and perform construction administration on assigned projects.
  • Work with consultants to secure necessary easements for all assigned projects. Negotiate and prepare property easements and oversee the preparation of property descriptions, survey, and legal recording as required.
  • Responsible for managing project financials such as work orders, purchase orders, invoicing, etc.
  • Collaborate with various departments statewide: operations, engineering, accounting, customer service.
  • Responsible for due diligence for possible new acquisitions.
  • Responsible for reviewing water main extension plans to ensure the plans are in compliance with the Aqua NJ design standard.
  • Assist with other tasks or projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required.
  • Candidate must be a Registered Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey or have the ability to obtain a PE license within 12 months from hire date.
  • 4+ years of relevant experience is required.
  • Valid NJ Driver’s License is required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; communicate effectively with internal customers.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player able to work effectively in a team through multi-tasking.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Perform sedentary work – exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
  • Working conditions may include travel to work sites of Essential Utilities and/or other constituents within the State of NJ.
