Summary
Provides front-line supervision for the vinyl's unit with primary responsibility for Health, Safety, Environment (HSE), Process Safety Management (PSM) activities, and environmental compliance. Oversees safe, reliable operation of vinyl production equipment; leads equipment inspection programs; manages Management of Change (MOC) processes; and serves as the unit’s primary environmental liaison. Ensures operating and maintenance activities meet regulatory requirements, company policies, site procedures, PSM standards and environmental permits.
Supports continuous improvement and operational excellence and periodically provides backup coverage within the operations supervision team.
- Assists in overseeing unit compliance with applicable safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including safe work practices, permit-to-work systems, and lockout/tagout/zero energy verification for vinyl equipment.
- Leads and coordinates PSM-related duties for the vinyl unit, including planning, scheduling, and tracking required equipment inspections, tests, and preventive maintenance for PSM-covered assets to ensure timely completion and proper documentation.
- Initiates, writes, and manages Management of Change (MOC) requests for process, equipment, instrumentation, and procedural changes in the vinyl unit; ensures hazard reviews, approvals, pre-startup safety reviews, and training are completed in accordance with PSM and site requirements.
- Serves as the key intradepartmental environmental representative, ensuring operating practices and maintenance activities comply with environmental permits, emissions and reporting obligations.
- Ensures that operating procedures, standard work, and emergency procedures for the vinyl unit are current, accurate, and reflect recent MOCs and lessons learned; coordinates periodic procedure review and operator training.
- Develops monthly inspection lists and verifies completion of unit housekeeping in accordance with site requirements; directs operations and maintenance to correct identified deficiencies.
- Works closely with site Safety, Environmental, and PSM personnel to prepare for internal audits, corporate reviews, and regulatory inspections; leads the unit’s preparation, participates in field walkdowns, and supports follow-up corrective action planning and execution.
- Periodically provides coverage and support within the operations supervision team, directing unit operations to meet production schedules, coordinating response to operating issues and upsets, and ensuring safe and efficient unit performance.
Five years of progressive operating experience, including knowledge and skills related to operating functions within a chemical plant facility, preferably in vinyl process units. Understanding of equipment care and handling, equipment applications, safety and environmental policies, PSM requirements, and process relations. A minimum of five years of experience working as a supervisor is preferred.
