We are currently recruiting for a Senior Process Safety Engineer to join a major energy and refining organization at their facility in the Toledo area. My client is a leader in the North American energy sector and is looking for a technical expert to champion safety initiatives and manage risk mitigation strategies.

In this role, you will be the primary technical authority for refinery process safety. You will ensure the site remains in full compliance with all federal regulations, including OSHA PSM and EPA RMP standards. This is a high impact position that involves working across multiple departments to embed safety principles into the daily operations of the refinery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and lead technical safety assessments including PHA, HAZOP, LOPA, and Major Accident Hazard methodologies.
  • Provide expert guidance on Management of Change processes and ensure consistent implementation across the site.
  • Lead comprehensive incident investigations and perform detailed root cause analyses to prevent future occurrences.
  • Manage internal and third party audits to identify gaps and ensure all corrective actions are tracked and closed out.
  • Partner with senior leadership to set performance goals and analyze safety data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Act as a cultural leader for safety, influencing stakeholders at all levels to prioritize process integrity.
Candidate Requirements
  • A university degree in Engineering, Safety, Chemistry, or an Environmental science discipline.
  • A minimum of eight years of professional experience in process safety or technical engineering within the oil, gas, or chemical manufacturing industries.
  • Advanced knowledge of US federal safety regulations, specifically 29 CFR  and EPA Risk Management Programs.
  • Proven ability to facilitate complex safety studies and risk assessments.
  • Strong background in root cause analysis and lead investigator roles.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
