General Job Description
The Tax Manager is responsible for the strategic management and oversight of all global tax affairs, ensuring compliance with complex domestic and international regulations. This role involves directing all tax compliance and reporting (including the ASC 740 tax provision), developing and executing tax‑saving strategies, and critically, managing and defending the company’s intricate transfer pricing policies for its global steel production and distribution.
The manager also acts as the primary lead for all tax audits and cross‑border transaction analysis, serving as a key partner to finance leadership to mitigate tax risk across all operating jurisdictions.
- Direct and manage the timely and accurate preparation and filing of all international and domestic income tax, franchise, VAT/GST, and indirect tax returns.
- Prepare and review the quarterly and annual income tax provision (ASC 740/IAS
12) for financial reporting purposes, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation of tax accounts.
- Develop, implement, and maintain strategic tax planning initiatives to legally optimize the effective tax rate (ETR) and manage global cash taxes.
- Lead and oversee the company’s global transfer pricing strategy, including documentation, modeling, and intercompany agreements for all cross‑border transactions involving steel products and services.
- Manage all tax audits and examinations by government authorities (IRS, foreign tax agencies), coordinating information and defense strategies with external advisors and internal finance teams.
- Monitor and interpret global tax law changes (e.g., OECD, BEPS, Pillar One/Two) to assess their impact on the company’s operations and financial position.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required.
- Master of Taxation (MST) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License is highly preferred.
- 5+ years of progressive tax experience in a large corporate environment (preferably manufacturing or international) or a Big Four public accounting firm, with significant focus on international taxation.
- Demonstrated expertise in ASC 740 (Tax Provision) and Transfer Pricing documentation.
- Technical Tax Expertise:
Deep working knowledge of U.S. federal and state tax law, international tax principles (e.g., foreign tax credits, Subpart F, GILTI), and global tax reform (BEPS/Pillar Two). - Analytical & Financial Modeling:
Superior ability to analyze complex financial data, model the tax impact of business decisions (e.g., M&A, new mills), and quantify tax savings opportunities. - Transfer Pricing Focus:
Specific expertise in designing, implementing, and documenting intercompany transactions related to tangible goods (steel products) and intercompany services. - Software Proficiency:
Advanced proficiency with tax compliance software, general ledger systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and Microsoft Excel for complex data manipulation. - Communication & Audit Defense:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate complex tax issues to non‑tax executives, and proven ability to successfully manage and defend positions during federal and international audits.
