By joining the Division of Forestry/Frankfort Branch/Section II as a Forest Ranger Technician II in Spencer County, you will have the opportunity to significantly contribute to ensuring the programmatic integrity of numerous forestry‑related programs, and the consistent delivery of services to the public. During the performance of your assigned duties, you will interact on a daily or weekly basis with not only the public, but with branch personnel, branch management, and the division's program staff.
Responsibilities- Performing Wildland Fire Prevention, Suppression, Law Enforcement, and related activities
- Conducting Timber Harvesting Compliance Inspections and Regulatory Enforcement
- Providing Forest Management Technical Assistance
- Performing Forestry Education and Public Outreach
- Ability to work independently
- Effective communication, organization, and documentation skills
- Proficient knowledge and use of information technology
Education: Graduate of a college or university with an associate’s degree in a natural, biological, social, or physical sciences.
Experience, Training, or
Skills:
Must have two years of forest management or forest protection experience.
Substitute Education for
Experience:
A bachelor’s degree in a natural, biological, social, or physical sciences will substitute for the associate’s degree and the two years of forest management or forest protection experience.
Substitute Experience for
Education:
Forest management or forest protection experience will substitute for the associate’s degree on the basis of two years of experience for one year of education, OR two years of experience in the Forest Ranger Technician series will substitute for the associate’s degree and the two years of forest management or forest protection experience.
Must be at least 21 years of age. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license to qualify for employment in this job classification. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this job classification. Employing agency is responsible for ensuring employee possesses and maintains required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials.
Working ConditionsWork is typically performed outdoors on private forest lands. Work can be under adverse conditions due to weather, topography, or when suppressing wild lands fires. Adverse conditions could be present when assisting in all‑risk emergency response when mobilized. Work also involves frequent contact with citizens and organizations in the promotion of forestry programs. Duties are typically performed within the Commonwealth of Kentucky;
however, some functions may occur in other states.
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
