Full Time Position – 36 Weekly Hours – Nights (3 12‑hour shifts, rotating weekends & holidays; 7 pm–7 am)

Tech Advanced – West Hospital

Job Summary

The ED Tech Advanced provides direct patient care under the guidance of an RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Functions
  • Provides basic patient care and tasks: care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assistance with mobility, lab draws, ECGs, basic wound care, and other unit‑based specialty duties under the direction of an RN.
  • Performs the ED Tech Advanced role, including colostomy care, IV insertion, IV removal and IV site care, transport on monitor, identifies need and initiates CPR, Foley catheter placement, identifies patients in crises or decline and alerts RN for further assessments, and other unit‑based specialty duties based on state and department guidelines under the direction of an RN.
  • Completes patient rounding as assigned.
  • Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
  • Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
  • Provides high‑level customer service to all patients, families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
  • Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
  • Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
  • Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
  • Collects data, within scope.
  • Completes patient screenings as applicable.
  • Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
  • Demonstrates ability to work independently, problem‑solve, and resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.
  • Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned that are deemed necessary for department operations.
Education
  • High School Diploma or GED (required)
  • Successful completion of an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) through an approved educational program (preferred)
Required Licensing & Certifications
  • BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care)
  • Current certification for Advanced EMT (AEMT) (preferred) (required if employed in the state of South Carolina)
Experience
  • 1 year of experience as an LPN, ED Tech, or Advanced EMT (required)
