Job Summary Responsible for coding outpatient hospital services to ensure accurate and timely claim submission. Applies ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on clinical documentation, adhering to payer and organizational guidelines. Ensures coding quality, compliance, and productivity to support revenue integrity.

Essential Functions
  • Assigned accurate diagnoses and procedures for outpatient encounters, including emergency room and office clinic procedures, based on clinical documentation, in compliance ICD-10-CM Official Coding Guidelines.
  • Maintains consistent achievement of departmental productivity and quality standards.
  • Utilizes encoder software efficiently to support accurate APC assignments.
  • Reviews clinical documentation for accuracy and clarity and initiates providers queries to resolve discrepancies or obtain missing information.
  • Resolves claim edits, addresses payer rejections to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education Requirement
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
    Associate’s or Bachelor’s in HIM preferred.
Experience Requirement
  • 2–3 years of outpatient coding experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • All experience must be paid and in the same related field.
  • Part‑time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week.
  • Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted.
Certifications & Licensures
  • RHIA Certification, CPMA, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS‑P), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or equivalent required.
