The Opportunity
This position is an onsite role, and candidates must be able to work on-site at Butler Memorial Hospital in Butler, PA.
Patient Access Specialist Responsibilities- Assign accurate MRNs, complete medical necessity/compliance checks, provide patient instructions, collect insurance information, receive and process physician orders, utilize overlay tools, and provide excellent customer service measured by Press Ganey.
- Operate the telephone switchboard to relay incoming, outgoing, and inter‑office calls.
- Adhere to policies and provide excellent customer service with compassion.
- Meet point‑of‑service goals as assigned.
- Utilize quality auditing and reporting systems to ensure accounts are corrected; conduct audits and provide statistical data to leadership.
- Pre‑register patient accounts prior to visits; handle inbound/outbound calls to obtain demographics, insurance, and financial liabilities; collect point‑of‑service collections and payment plans.
- Explain consent forms to patients or their guarantors, obtain signatures, and distribute education documents such as Medicare/Tricare messages and other required forms.
- Review eligibility responses in insurance verification system, select applicable insurance plan code, and enter benefit data to support point‑of‑service collections and billing.
- Screen medical necessity using ABN software, inform Medicare patients of potential non‑payment, distribute and document ABN and other forms.
- 1+ years of customer service experience.
- Inquisitive and open to innovation, including exploring AI to improve processes.
High School Diploma or GED required.
CertificationsCRCR certification required within 9 months of hire.
