Job PostingOCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST Occupational Therapist – Job Description Position Summary

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing high quality, evidence based therapeutic services across multiple care settings, including outpatient therapy, school based pediatric services, and inpatient rehabilitation. This role focuses on helping individuals of all ages develop, restore, or maintain the skills needed for daily living, functional independence, and participation in meaningful activities. The therapist collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, families, caregivers, and educators to ensure comprehensive and individualized care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Outpatient Therapy Services
    • Evaluate and treat patients with orthopedic, neurological, developmental, and functional impairments.
    • Develop individualized treatment plans based on clinical assessments and patient goals.
    • Provide interventions such as therapeutic exercise, ADL/IADL training, sensory motor interventions, splinting, and functional task training.
    • Educate patients and families on home exercise programs, adaptive equipment, and strategies to improve independence.
    • Document evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summaries in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • School Based Pediatric Therapy
    • Conduct assessments to determine students’ functional needs within the educational environment.
    • Provide direct therapy, consultation, and classroom-based interventions to support academic participation.
    • Address fine motor skills, handwriting, sensory processing, self-regulation, self-care skills, and access to the school environment.
    • Participate in IEP meetings, contribute to goal development, and collaborate with teachers, parents, and school staff.
    • Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and district policies.
  • Inpatient Rehabilitation
    • Perform comprehensive evaluations for patients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery, including stroke, TBI, orthopedic procedures, and complex medical conditions.
    • Deliver intensive, goal-oriented therapy to improve mobility, ADLs, cognition, and functional independence.
    • Collaborate with physicians, PTs, SLPs, nursing, and case management to coordinate care and discharge planning.
    • Train patients and caregivers on adaptive techniques, equipment uses, and safety strategies.
    • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans to meet rehabilitation goals.
  • General Duties Across All Settings
    • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation.
    • Adhere to ethical and professional standards set by AOTA and state licensure boards.
    • Participate in continuing education and professional development.
    • Supervise OTAs and students as appropriate.
    • Contribute to program development, quality improvement initiatives, and interdisciplinary communication.
    Qualifications
    • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
    • Current state licensure as an Occupational Therapist.
    • NBCOT certification (or eligibility).
    • Experience in pediatric therapy, outpatient care, and/or inpatient rehabilitation preferred.
    • Strong communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across diverse settings.
    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to lift, transfer, and assist patients as needed.
    • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
    • Ability to use therapeutic tools, adaptive equipment, and technology.
