As a locum Biomedical Scientist, you will enjoy the freedom to explore diverse working environments and the chance to gain a wealth of experiences enhancing your professional repertoire.
What you will do:
- Undertake specialist Histology investigations and technical procedures, including tissue processing, microtomy, staining, immunohistochemistry, and associated diagnostic techniques.
- Ensure prompt and accurate processing of patient specimens using automated and manual methodologies in accordance with departmental SOPs and quality standards.
- Rotate through specialist sections of the Histopathology laboratory to maintain a comprehensive diagnostic service.
- Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot complex laboratory equipment, ensuring maintenance, calibration, and performance checks are completed appropriately.
- Contribute to Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Assessment (EQA) schemes, supporting UKAS accreditation and continuous quality improvement.
Person Specification:
Qualifications:
- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Science or an equivalent IBMS-accredited qualification.
- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
Requirements:
- Current HCPC registration.
- Significant NHS Histopathology laboratory experience with the ability to work independently within a specialist Histology environment.
- Ideally suited for those with a Masters in Histology or the IBMS Histology specialist portfolio for Band 6 roles.
