Public Service Faculty – Data Analytics and Visualization Unit Manager

Position will be available May 1, 2026 and carries rank in the public service faculty career ladder of the University.

The Data Analytics and Visualization Unit Manager provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for a unit dedicated to advancing data‑informed decision‑making in state and local government. The role leads applied research, technical assistance, business development, and training initiatives that support public sector organizations in improving operational effectiveness through integrated data strategies, data visualization, analytics, and modern data management practices.

• Design, develop, and deliver applied research, technical assistance, and AI‑related advisory services for state and local government agencies.
• Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the unit, supervise professional staff, oversee workloads and project portfolios, support employee development and coaching, and participate in division and Institute leadership meetings and committees.
• Lead business development and client relationship management focused on revenue generation and project sustainability, including client needs assessment, portfolio coordination, and contract negotiation.
• Establish and maintain external professional partnerships and networks with data analytics communities, professional associations, and government‑focused organizations to support collaboration, visibility, and long‑term strategic positioning.
• Design, develop, and deliver training, education, and knowledge‑sharing activities related to data analytics, visualization, and data strategy for government and professional audiences.

• Master’s degree, preferably in computer science, public administration, business management, higher education, or a closely related field.
• Five years of progressive experience in data analytics, computer science or IT management, and five years with business intelligence platforms or advanced visualizations.
• Experience supervising professional staff or faculty and delivering training to adult learners.
• Experience developing scopes of work, delivering contract‑based deliverables, and managing budgets.
• Strong oral and written communication, client engagement, and business development skills.
• Advanced skills in prioritization, organization, multitasking, supervision, and project management.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and expertise in programming tools such as Julia, R, Python, SQL and cloud computing platforms.
• Comprehensive knowledge of data analysis, statistical modeling, and visualization tools for applied research and technical assistance.
