Two full‑time positions within the Division of Water Reclamation will operate and monitor wastewater treatment, sludge processing, and disposal equipment at Jackson Pike Water Reclamation Plant (JPWRP).
Responsibilities- Operate equipment ancillary to the treatment process and monitor control panels and/or computer terminals.
- Adjust valves and gates to ensure process operates within design limits.
- Observe and report variations in operating conditions, interpreting meter and gauge readings and using visual observation, sounds, and smell.
- Start and stop pumps, engines, equipment to control flow of sewage/sludge through the treatment process.
- Monitor and report on process performance, supply of materials, chemicals, and condition of operating equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting tasks on equipment and clean work area.
- Maintain accurate record keeping and complete shift logbooks and reports.
- Operate a computerized Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition System (SCADA) to monitor the flow and processing of reclaimed water, biosolids, and effluent.
- Monitor water reclamation treatment and biosolids processing equipment such as pumps, motors, air compressors, blowers, thickeners, valves, and gates.
- Make adjustments or changes manually or by remote control to regulate flow of reclaimed water.
- Logs and interprets readings from computers, meters, gauges, charts, and instruments.
- Start and stop pumps, engines, and generators to control the flow and processing of reclaimed water via computer or operator interface terminals.
- Maintain legible, accurate records and logs of shift operations; record meter and gauge readings.
- Monitor and control the application and supply of chemicals, dissolved oxygen, or other materials.
- Collect sewage samples using dipper or bottle and check autosamplers for proper operation.
- Communicate with others performing operations and/or maintenance tasks via phone or two‑way radio.
- Prepare maintenance repair requests; perform minor equipment maintenance including lubrication and light painting.
- Operate an incinerator by performing inspections and operational tasks as necessary to maintain burner control.
- Cleans work area including stairs, equipment, floors, and conveyor belts; picks up trash.
- Train less experienced operators in functions of specific operational area.
- Perform field tests such as ammonia concentration‑level assessment, percent total solids, temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, and other related tests.
- May use hand tools and grease guns in the performance of some job duties.
- Pre‑employment drug screening and background check are required if selected.
Fourth shift:
Tuesday–Wednesday 10:45 pm–6:45 am, Thursday–Friday 2:45 pm–10:45 pm, Saturday 6:45 am–2:45 pm.
- Possession of a valid Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) State of Ohio Class I, II, III, or IV Wastewater Operator certificate for wastewater treatment works.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Eligible to obtain reciprocity from the Ohio EPA if holding an equivalent operator certification in another state (must acquire appropriate Ohio EPA certificate at the time of Minimum Qualifications review).
- Experience operating SCADA and wastewater treatment equipment.
$31.51 – $40.01 hourly.
