This position will serve as the liaison between Manufacturing Engineering and other functional groups including manufacturing, design engineering, quality, and customer service. The candidate will be responsible for creating the methods and sequence of manufacturing operations for intricate and/or complex machined parts and assemblies that meet design and quality requirements. Tasks include working with cell management, tool design, CNC programming, providing manufacturability input, developing manufacturing plans for product design or modification, and leading continuous improvement projects such as set‑up reduction and Kaizen events to support Lean Manufacturing methodology.
PrincipalActivities
- Move parts from older, less efficient, and worn‑out equipment onto newer equipment to free up capacity.
- Create processes and design fixtures for repeatability and predictability in manufacturing quality parts.
- Identify new equipment/processes to reduce cost in the low‑volume, high‑mix facility.
- Update the MRP system to reflect lead times, routing, and other manufacturing support information.
- Develop Standard Work documentation for machine and assembly operations.
- Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Consult with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
- Consult with vendors to determine product specifications, arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
- Consult with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
- Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
- Ability to design machine fixturing for manual and CNC equipment.
- Ability to create repeatability in processes for machining and assembly.
- Ability to define and write standard work.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Advanced knowledge of continuous improvement, with a track record of implementation.
- Ability to prepare comprehensive and accurate reports.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of employees, across all functions of the organization.
- Ability to read and understand technical drawings, including GD&T.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Manufacturing Technology is preferred.
- Typically requires a minimum level of knowledge that is acquired through a four‑year college degree in an applicable field and no previous related experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
