Fine Paper Machine Shift Supervisor – Hawesville, KY
Domtar, a leading producer of pulp, paper, and packaging, seeks a full‑time permanent shift supervisor for its Fine Paper Machine (FPM) area. The role coordinates the safe, cost‑effective operation of the Fine Paper section while ensuring environmental compliance, union contract adherence, and alignment with Domtar Advanced Work System (DAWS).
Responsibilities- Lead safety initiatives and champion Domtar Safety Principles.
- Support the goals of the Fine Paper Mill department and maintain open communication.
- Engage the workforce to collaborate on continuous improvement and business results.
- Represent Domtar with honesty and integrity, including safety policy and PPE compliance.
- Assign, review, and plan work for crews and maintenance support.
- Resolve union disagreements and grievances at the first level.
- Set expectations, manage crew and individual performance, conduct evaluations, and develop improvement plans.
- Develop and manage training for hourly employees, including new employee orientation.
- Prioritize crew training based on DAWS requirements and crew skill sets.
- Personal dedication to safety and culture of safety excellence.
- Team player capable of working independently or collaboratively.
- Strong communication skills at all organizational levels.
- Commitment to a safe and healthy work environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent;
Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline preferred. - Minimum 5+ years of practical experience in a paper manufacturing facility (or 2+ years if holding a degree).
- Experience in a Process Safety Management environment in a leadership role preferred.
- Physical ability to climb, lift, wear respirators, and work in confined spaces.
- Ability to work with paper dust, heat, chemicals, and in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work a 12‑hour rotating shift (4 on & 4 off) or related relief positions.
- Independently meet demands of a 24/7 operation.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office and payroll/time‑keeping software.
