CNC Mill Trainer | Build the Next Generation of Machinists
The CNC Mill Trainer is responsible for training, mentoring, and guiding apprentices and new hires in CNC machining fundamentals and shop practices. Supports the apprenticeship program while reinforcing safety, quality, and performance standards. Assists with production by operating CNC equipment as needed.
What You'll Do- Train apprentices and new hires in CNC machining basics and advanced tasks
- Provide instruction in blueprint reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Teach the use of precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc.)
- Mentor and coach employees on technical skills and workplace behaviors
- Observe, document, and provide feedback on trainee performance and progress
- Support and execute apprenticeship program objectives
- Perform additional CNC-related tasks as assigned by the Foreman
- Operate CNC machines as needed to support production
- Promote and enforce safety and quality standards
- Perform outreach and recruiting efforts with local high schools
- Interview students and participate in the hiring committee
- Travel up to 10% as required for training or program support
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge & Experience
- CNC Level I Machinist (or equivalent hands‑on experience)
- Strong knowledge of CNC machine operation and basic programming
- Blueprint reading and GD&T fundamentals
- Precision measurement and inspection techniques
- Understanding of manufacturing workflows and shop operations
- Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment
- Strong mentoring and coaching abilities
- Excellent communication and hands‑on teaching skills
- Ability to evaluate performance and adjust training methods to different learning styles
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Effective problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills
Ability to manage multiple trainees and priorities - Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced shop environment
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
- Ability to move throughout the facility, including walking between departments multiple times per day
