Healthy Harvest Corps (HHC) is an Ameri Corps program administered by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks as part of a coordinated statewide effort to expand and sustain Food Is Medicine initiatives. These initiatives recognize access to healthy food as a critical component of improving health outcomes and overall well‑being. Ameri Corps volunteers will play an important role in addressing hunger as a social determinant of health by supporting programs that connect individuals and families with nutritious food resources.
Through the Healthy Harvest Corps program, OAF will place 13 Ameri Corps members at 8 host sites across Ohio to support Food Is Medicine initiatives and strengthen community‑based hunger relief efforts.
The position is located at Shared Harvest Foodbank in Fairfield. Shared Harvest Foodbank was founded in 1983. Our core program is to collect, warehouse, transport and distribute contributions of wholesome surplus food and other grocery style products to more than 100 food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and similar nonprofits in Butler, Warren, Preble, Darke and Miami counties. Shared Harvest also administers USDA’s Emergency Food Assistance Program for four sister Foodbank’s serving an additional 26 Ohio counties.
Duties
As a Healthy Harvest Corps volunteer with Shared Harvest Foodbank, you will help advance Food Is Medicine initiatives by supporting the implementation of Healthy Eating Research (HER) guidelines across foodbank programs and services. You will play an active role in evaluating and ranking food items using nutrition standards, developing training and educational materials, collaborating with foodbank staff and partners, collecting feedback from community members, and creating resources that can be utilized across Ohio's statewide hunger relief network.
You will gain valuable experience in nutrition education, program evaluation, data collection and analysis, communications, and community engagement. Ideal for individuals interested in public health/nutrition, this position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact while building professional skills and contributing to innovative approaches to hunger relief. This position is part‑time w/ flexible hours.
