Healthy Harvest Corps (HHC) is an Ameri Corps program administered by the Ohio Association of Foodbanks as part of a coordinated statewide effort to expand and sustain Food Is Medicine initiatives. These initiatives recognize access to healthy food as a critical component of improving health outcomes and overall well-being. Ameri Corps volunteers will play an important role in addressing hunger as a social determinant of health by supporting programs that connect individuals and families with nutritious food resources.
Through the Healthy Harvest Corps program, OAF will place 13 Ameri Corps members at 8 host sites across Ohio to support Food Is Medicine initiatives and strengthen community‑based hunger relief efforts. This position is located at West Ohio Foodbank, in Lima, Ohio. They serve 11 counties in Ohio, working to eradicate food insecurity in our service area and ensure that people experiencing food insecurity have access to food.

OIN West Ohio Food Bank as a Healthy Harvest Corps Ameri Corps Member and play a direct role in advancing “food as medicine” initiatives across the community. This position centers on a medically supportive grocery box program, connecting neighbors referred by healthcare providers with nutritious food and wellness resources. Members will coordinate food packing and distribution, manage inventory, communicate with participants and referral partners, and use Healthy Eating Research guidelines to identify nutritious food options.
Additional activities include engaging with community members at mobile markets, senior food distributions, and pantry programs. This role offers hands‑on experience in public health, nutrition, food access, outreach, and program operations while building skills in communication, organization, and community engagement.
