- Perform skilled practical nursing procedures and treatments (e.g., administer oxygen, conduct blood glucose testing, apply sterile dressing, insert catheters, give enemas & douches, collect specimens).
- Assist physicians with client and new employee physical exams, treatments, and lab tests.
- Assist in emergencies (first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, restraining clients).
- Conduct neurological and circulation assessments.
- Administer medication orally, rectally, or by injection, including intramuscular, subcutaneous injections and TB skin tests, and provide medication instructions to clients.
- Maintain medication records, charts, counts, stock, and medical equipment supplies.
- Provide general nursing and direct care (take vital signs, assist with personal grooming, bathing, topicals, eye/ear/nose drops, bandages, warm/cold compresses, escort clients, support recreational activities).
- Assist lower‑level direct care staff in providing unskilled nursing care such as dressing, bathing, feeding, and attend participation in in‑service training and nursing meetings.
- Observe, document, and report client conditions, medication reactions, treatment responses, behaviors, and progress; prepare and maintain nursing assessments, incident reports, and related records.
- Perform clerical tasks (filing, duplicating, answering phone) as required to record client data.
- Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing with proof of completion of an approved medication‑administration course.
- Knowledge of skilled practical nursing procedures, pharmacology, client care, first aid, general hospital practices, and agency, institutional, hospital or clinic procedures.
- Proficiency with medical equipment (respirator, sterilizer, oxygen equipment, blood pressure cuff) and hypodermic needles.
- Ability to recognize unusual or threatening conditions and take appropriate emergency action; develop good rapport with patients/clients; follow written and verbal instructions.
- Licensed Practical Nurses who administer dialysis must have Certification in IV Therapy.
