Scope of Position

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s mission is to improve health in Ohio and across the world through innovation in research, education, and patient care. The team provides patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient’s involvement in his/her own plan of care and reducing the length of hospitalization. The nurse plays a critical role in the education and supervision of students in the clinical setting, in addition to staff engagement, patient experience, quality and safety, and cost-effective care.

Position

Summary

This role will function as a clinical nurse and student educator, who divides their time between providing direct patient care, leading nursing care provided by other members of the patient care team, supervising student patient care delivery, and teaching and evaluating nursing techniques of students. The Nursing Clinical Instructor – ONA is a dual-function role designed to enhance patient care delivery while supporting the development of future nursing professionals.

This position is composed of approximately 67% direct nursing responsibilities and 33% clinical instruction for nursing students.

Responsibilities
  • Patient assessment, care planning, medication administration, documentation, and participation in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Mentor and supervise nursing students in real-time clinical settings, fostering their growth through hands‑on teaching, feedback, and evaluation.
  • Coordinate with academic partners, facilitate learning experiences, and ensure students meet clinical competencies.
  • Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based care to patients, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure optimal outcomes.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Nursing from a CCNE or ACEN accredited nursing program required;
    Doctoral degree or current enrollment in a doctoral program preferred.
  • Current Ohio license or interim permit;
    Ohio APRN license required for advanced practice registered nurses.
  • Two years of RN experience in a relevant care setting required; five years preferred.
