Corporate Interim Director of Nursing (RN) – Multi-State Travel Role CCH Healthcare | Ohio, North Carolina, Tennessee

, is seeking a highly skilled and flexible Corporate Interim Director of Nursing (DON, RN) to provide clinical leadership and operational support across 38 facilities in Ohio, North Carolina, and Tennessee.

This is a high-impact leadership role ideal for an experienced long-term care Director of Nursing (DON) who thrives in fast-paced environments, excels in regulatory compliance, survey readiness, and clinical operations
, and is passionate about improving patient outcomes across multiple communities.

Travel Required: 90%+ travel, including multi-week assignments and overnight stays.

Position Summary

The Corporate Interim Director of Nursing is responsible for leading, supporting, and stabilizing nursing departments across assigned facilities. This role ensures continuity of care, regulatory compliance, quality improvement, and clinical excellence during times of transition, leadership vacancies, or operational need.

The DON will plan, organize, develop, and direct nursing services in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations
, ensuring the highest standards of resident care.

Key Responsibilities

The Interim Director of Nursing (RN) will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Provide hands-on clinical leadership and operational oversight in skilled nursing facilities

  • Ensure compliance with CMS, state, and federal regulations and maintain survey readiness

  • Lead and support nursing teams including ADONs, Unit Managers, and floor staff

  • Stabilize operations during transitions, including new leadership onboarding or staffing gaps

  • Monitor and improve clinical outcomes, quality measures, and care delivery systems

  • Oversee staffing, scheduling, and labor management
    , including agency reduction strategies

  • Conduct clinical audits, infection control monitoring, and risk management assessments

  • Collaborate with Administrators and corporate leadership on performance improvement plans

  • Support and enforce policies, procedures, and clinical best practices

  • Provide mentorship, education, and coaching to nursing teams

  • Assist with survey processes, plans of correction (POC), and regulatory follow-up

  • Maintain strong communication with interdisciplinary teams, residents, and families

Education, Experience, and Licensure Requirements
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio, North Carolina, and Tennessee (or compact license required)

  • Minimum 5–7 years of Director of Nursing (DON) experience in skilled nursing or long-term care

  • ASN or higher nursing degree from an accredited program required

  • Current CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)

  • Must maintain RN licensure in good standing throughout employment

Required Qualifications
  • Proven experience in long-term care leadership and multi-facility support

  • Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, state survey processes, and compliance standards

  • Demonstrated success in clinical operations, quality improvement, and team leadership

  • Experience with
    ventilator units and dementia care preferred

  • Ability to quickly assess situations and implement effective solutions in high-pressure environments

  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times

Travel & Schedule Requirements
  • Must reside in Ohio, North Carolina, or Tennessee

  • Ability to travel extensively (90%+) across all assigned markets

  • Availability for overnight travel and extended assignments (weeks to months per location)

  • Flexibility to respond to urgent facility needs as they arise
