Laboratory Technician II – Devos Lab
Position within the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at the University of Georgia.
Location:
Athens, GA. Salary: $35,000 – $45,500 (commensurate with experience).
Working hours:
Monday through Friday 8 am–5 pm, occasional evening and weekend hours as needed.
Start date:
06/01/2026. Visa sponsorship not available.
The Devos laboratory requires a full‑time laboratory technician to ensure project deliverables are met, supervise and train undergraduate employees, order and track supplies and chemicals, and maintain compliance with lab safety regulations. The position also assists with greenhouse and field work and involves the use of a P‑Card.
Duties / Responsibilities- Administrative duties such as ordering laboratory supplies from various vendors using UGAMart and other platforms.
- Utilize Campus Optics for tracking of chemicals stored in the laboratory.
- Maintain lab safety records and train new student employees on proper safety and compliance processes.
- Serve as a P‑Card holder, processing transactions in compliance with policy and established procedures.
- Assist with a variety of research projects in the Devos lab, including plant growth, maintenance, harvesting, laboratory experiments, and preparation of reagents and media.
- Train undergraduate employees and graduate students on proper lab protocols and experimental procedures to ensure project deliverables.
- Assist with greenhouse and field work where plant material for sponsored projects are grown, propagated and harvested.
- Other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies- Detail‑oriented and accurate for both experimental activities and lab manager activities.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Good financial acumen to manage budgets and procurement.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to learn and acquire new procedures/skills and solve routine technical problems.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work assignments, working independently with limited supervision.
- Ability to train others effectively and efficiently in the laboratory.
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Greenhouse and outdoor work in hot conditions.
- Lift 20 lbs.
- Some sitting and standing in the laboratory environment.
- Driving as needed to perform job duties.
