Laboratory Assistant
Position Summary:
The Shamblin lab seeks laboratory assistants for wildlife and fisheries sample processing and DNA extractions for population genetic analyses. Assist graduate students and the lab manager with sample tracking, processing of blood, eggshell, skin, fin clips, and swab samples, and DNA extractions for genotyping and sequencing for fish and wildlife species of conservation concern. Assist in sample archiving and general laboratory maintenance.
Responsibilities:
- Sample tracking and processing for DNA extractions (60% of time)
- DNA extractions and sample archiving (25%)
- Dish washing and general lab maintenance (15%)
Minimum Qualifications:
- BS degree in biology, genetics, marine science, or wildlife/fisheries (preferred)
- Previous laboratory experience is a plus, but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Can work independently or in groups.
- Attention to detail.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills.
Physical Demands:
Laboratory-based; sit or stand at bench for extended periods; occasionally lift boxes up to 40 pounds.
