Post‑Doctoral Associate – Rajao Lab

Position Summary: The Rajao Lab in the Department of Population Health at the University of Georgia is recruiting a highly motivated post‑doctoral scholar to work with influenza pathogenesis and control. The lab focuses on interspecies transmission, pathogenesis, and control of influenza viruses using a wide range of in vitro and in vivo approaches to study virus host range and improve existing or new vaccines and antivirals.

The postdoc will work directly with in‑vitro and in‑vivo experiments to evaluate different compounds for control and prevention of influenza viruses in swine and poultry and will participate in other projects and collaborations within the lab and across the university.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop research projects, in vitro and in vivo experimental work, data interpretation, including collaborative projects. (Approximately 50% of time)
  • Prepare written and oral communication of research output. (Approximately 20% of time)
  • Mentor and train other lab members. (Approximately 20% of time)
  • Lab‑related activities (including meetings, housekeeping, etc.). (Approximately 10% of time)

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. degree and training in virology or immunology.
  • Previous experience working with antivirals or vaccines.
  • Previous experience working with swine and/or poultry.
  • Energetic and self‑driven.
  • Highly motivated, dependable, and teamwork oriented.

Physical Demands: Sitting or standing for extended periods of time; lifting up to 40 pounds.
