Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation Postdoctoral Research Associate – HeRo Lab

Location: Athens, GA

Salary: $65,000 per year

Start Date: July 1, 2026

Employment Type: Full‑time, 40 hours/week (schedule may vary)

Funding: Fellowship from the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation (two‑year term)

Position Summary

The Heterogeneous Robotics Research Lab (HeRo Lab) at the University of Georgia seeks a postdoctoral researcher to conduct research on swarm robotics and AI for science. The role will involve designing and executing research projects, publishing results, and mentoring junior scientists.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Design and conduct research projects in the lab, as directed (70% of time)
  • Write research papers, reports, deliverables, software releases, and research proposals (20% of time)
  • Contribute to lab operations and mentor graduate and undergraduate students (10% of time)
Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Excellent communication, analytical skills, and strong mathematical reasoning
  • Evidence of independent research and teamwork
  • Publications in top‑tier robotics and AI conferences (e.g., ICRA, IROS, RSS, AAAI, IJCAI) and, ideally, Nature or Science group journals
  • Experience with experimental work on robotic platforms, simulation frameworks, and data analysis related to quantum materials
  • Interest and experience in mentoring junior researchers
  • Proficiency in English (written and verbal) and quantitative analysis
