Assistant Research Scientist - Trible
The Department of Entomology in the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences at the University of Georgia seeks a 12‑month research‑track faculty position (assistant research scientist) focused on the ecology and evolution of globally invasive ant species. The position is renewable with satisfactory performance and funding.
Minimum Qualifications- A doctoral degree in entomology, ecology, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of postdoctoral research experience.
- Demonstrable quantitative skills for biological research, including molecular genetic analysis, organization and execution of sample‑collection trips, macroevolutionary data compilation and analysis, and phylogeographic analysis.
- Track record in project design, publication, and acquisition of extramural funding.
- Strong academic record in invasive species biology, macroecology, phylogenetics, functional trait evolution, and ant biology.
- Design, organize, and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols, and in some cases develop new protocols.
- Summarize findings and publish results in scientific journals.
- Apply for extramural funding to support research activities.
- Mentor students in research and engage in resident instruction.
Physical demands:
Position requires a 95% research, 5% service workload. The role is a non‑tenure‑track, non‑financial responsibilities position with no P‑Card usage. The position requires occasional travel for sample collection and field studies.
