This is a limited‑term appointment expected to end one year after the start date. Renewal or extension beyond the initial term is anticipated but not guaranteed and will depend on project needs, the availability of funding, and job performance. The position may be renewed on an annual basis, contingent upon continued grant support.

A Research Technician will assist with projects and tasks in the laboratory, greenhouse, and office to support a plant genomics research laboratory. The role involves laboratory and greenhouse work with a diverse set of plant species, preparing culture media, reagents, buffers, and other solutions, performing tissue culture, and maintaining collections of clonally propagated plants.
Duties/Responsibilities- Greenhouse duties (50%):
Plant, maintain, and harvest plants with minimal instruction; collect material for experiments; perform crosses; mix soil; fill pots; and clean the greenhouses/growth chambers. - Laboratory duties (40%):
Prepare culture media, reagents, buffers, and other solutions; perform tissue culture and maintain collections of clonally propagated plants in good health. - Administrative duties (10%):
Independently maintain inventory to order and stock; maintain a clean and sterile lab environment; assist with administrative duties such as package shipping and receiving, mail retrieval, and answering phones.
Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and 2 years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications: High school diploma required with some college education preferred; experience in laboratory, greenhouse, and aseptic technique preferred.

Competencies:
- Proficiency in laboratory, greenhouse, and aseptic technique.
- Strong organizational skills, basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.); ability to communicate effectively and multitask.
- Meticulous, punctual, reliable; strong attention to detail.
- Knowledge of basic plant life cycle and genetics.
- Competency in basic laboratory techniques.
- Knowledge of lab protocols and equipment.
- Utilize computer technology for all applications in a manner that meets performance expectations.
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds, both assisted and unassisted.
