Position Summary
Research Tech position in a moderate-sized, highly dynamic, and productive research lab working in immunity to human parasitic infections using primarily mouse models. Specific duties will vary with the project but may include maintenance of cultured cells and parasites, performance of in vitro and in vivo tests for the effectiveness of antiparasite drugs, plasmid construction, CRISPR screening, immunological assays (Luminex, Flow Cytometry), tissue preparation, and microscopy.
Many opportunities will exist for developing a diverse skill set and for gaining experience and independence in designing and executing research experiments and protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five (5) years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous research experience.
- Willingness to work with mice and human pathogens.
- Interest or experience with various tissue preparation and microscopy methods.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies
- Effective communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize work duties and manage experiment execution.
- Attention to safety protocols for working with pathogens.
Physical Demands
Sit or stand at a laboratory workbench for extended periods of time.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Recombinant Protein Expression and Purification
Perform data analysis and execute serological assays using the Luminex platform. - Experimental Design and Planning
Contribute to study design, protocol development, and optimization of experimental workflows. - Laboratory Work
- Isolate peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) via density gradient centrifugation.
- Prepare cryo-sections and tissue samples for histological analysis.
- Design and clone plasmid vectors, including molecular cloning and validation.
- Research Experiment Design
Design and execute research experiments and protocols under guidance of the principal investigator. Collaborate with other research technicians and professionals.
