Job Description
Directs and oversees the operations and activities of the Ohio State University emergency 911 call center that also uses real-time data and technology to enhance law enforcement operations, focusing on situational awareness and providing actionable intelligence to first responders.
Communications and Security Technology Division OverviewThe Communications and Security Technology Division of the Department of Public Safety is responsible for the delivery of public safety dispatching, radio communications, and handling emergency 9‑1‑1 and non‑emergency calls for service to the university. Additionally, the division monitors and responds to security, fire and environmental alarms, campus video systems, license plate reader information, and manages drone as first responder operations.
The use of various security technology sources allows the division to convert real‑time data into actionable information that is communicated to first responders in the field. The division also conducts security assessments of campus facilities and recommends appropriate security technology.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience. Advanced degree may be required. 10 years of relevant experience required. 15 or more years of relevant experience preferred.
Preferred QualificationsConsiderable knowledge of FCC regulations and licensing requirements is required. Minimum 5 years of experience overseeing a 9‑1‑1 communications and central station (alarm center) required. Experience analyzing dispatching equipment needs and evaluating systems required. Experience analyzing and evaluating security technology systems required. Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form required.
Knowledge of LEADS regulations desired. At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory capacity desired. Prior experience supervising police dispatchers desired. Experience in management of a Real‑Time Crime Center desired.
Subject to 24‑hour call in. Days and hours may vary. May work evenings and weekends. Required to work home football games and may be required to work other major stadium events.
This position is identified as an essential position, whose presence is required regardless of the existence of an emergency condition, and whose absence from duty could endanger the safety and well‑being of the campus population and/or physical plant.
Target hiring range is $124,650 - $141,401
