The part‑time Security Guard is an as‑needed position within the University Health Center Facilities unit and reports to the Facilities Maintenance Manager. This position is primarily responsible for providing security coverage for the UHC building, grounds, and parking areas to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The part‑time Security Guard monitors facilities, responds to safety concerns, issues parking citations, and collaborates with UGA Police and Parking Services as needed.
During periods of operational need, the position may provide limited support to Facilities Operations, including event setup assistance and basic facilities support tasks.
- Patrol and monitor UHC grounds and building to ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Issue parking citations as appropriate and maintain accurate records.
- Assist the public by giving directions and answering questions.
- Report safety and security concerns to the Facilities Maintenance Manager or appropriate authority via radio or other communication methods.
- Interact with UGA Police and Parking Services as needed.
- Observe and report unusual activity or suspicious behavior and take appropriate action according to established procedures.
- Inspect doors, windows, and access points to ensure facility security.
- Report all life safety concerns, such as fire and trip hazards, and take appropriate action when necessary.
- Assist with monitoring fire, tornado, bomb, and mass casualty drills.
- Provide security monitoring during special events or high‑traffic periods.
- Provide limited operational support to Facilities Maintenance during staffing shortages or special projects.
- Assist with general facilities duties such as custodial support, basic maintenance assistance, event or meeting setup, supply movement, safety monitoring, and other operational tasks.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least one (1) year of security guard experience.
- Georgia State Driver’s License.
- Ability to read, write and understand written and/or oral instructions.
- Ability to interact professionally and respectfully with the public and maintain composure under pressure.
- Ability to exercise independently and show sound judgment when responding to security or parking issues.
- Ability to adapt to changing assignments and perform a variety of facilities‑related duties as operational needs require.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team.
- Capable of walking extensively throughout the facility and its surrounding areas, walking upstairs, climbing ladders, and maneuvering uneven surfaces.
- Ability to walk and work outdoors in intense hot or cold conditions.
- Proficient in verbal and written communication through telephone, email, or face‑to‑face interactions.
- Able to hear sounds that may necessitate an immediate response, such as a distress call.
- Capable of lifting and maneuvering items weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Competent in safely operating vehicles registered in the state of Georgia and a security cart.
