DescriptionAre you interested in being a part of a team that is dedicated to protecting the lives and property of this Commonwealth? The Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction, Electrical Inspection Section inspects buildings and oversees the licensing of electricians and electrical contractors, certification of electrical inspectors, and educational programs in the administration and enforcement of electrical codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities- Inspects electrical installation during construction or remodeling to enforce the National Electrical Code minimum standards for residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installation.
- Performs electrical license investigations at random and in response to written complaints if licensed violators are discovered; incumbent is responsible for contacting local authorities and initiating proceedings for court summons.
- Assists architects, engineers, plumbing contractors, builders, health department personnel, and homeowners in ensuring adherence to the laws, regulations and codes in an assigned area.
- Master Electrician License obtained through examination OR at least eight (8) years of experience in the installation and design of all types of residential, commercial, and industrial wiring systems installed in accordance with code OR be a registered electrical engineer engaged in that profession for at least three (3) years.
- Proficient communication skills.
- Possess sufficient technical knowledge of construction practices and techniques.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects.

- Demonstrate attention to detail.
- High level of customer service.
- Education: High School Graduate.
- Experience, Training, or
Skills:
Must possess a Kentucky Master Electrician License obtained through examination. OR Must have eight years of experience in the electrical trade. OR Be a registered electrical engineer engaged in that profession for at least three (3) years. - Substitute Education for

Certification as a certified Electrical Inspector General will substitute for the required experience. - Substitute Experience for
Education:
NONE. - Special Requirements (Age, Licensure, Regulation, ETC.): Must possess a valid driver's license prior to employment. Must be certified as a certified Electrical Inspector General OR must obtain certification within the first six months of employment. Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification.
Frequent travel is expected to perform inspections. Exposure to dangers and hazards associated with electricity.
Probationary PeriodThis job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
