What You'll Do:
This position will service Franklin, Madison, Greene, Montgomery, and Clark Counties.
The Division of Industrial Compliance and its associated boards ensure Ohioans are safe in public buildings such as businesses, educational institutions and municipal buildings. This includes drafting and applying the Ohio Building Code; conducting appeal hearings; issuing variances to code requirements; licensing commercial contractors; inspecting boilers, elevators and bedding; and regulating ski tramways. The division has responsibility for portions of the Manufactured Homes Program, and licenses installers and parks.
The division also oversees Ohio’s minimum wage, prevailing wage and minor labor law programs.
- Conducts field inspections of plumbing & drainage installations in public & commercial buildings to ensure compliance with approved plans.
- Coordinates inspections with building & plumbing inspectors during course of building construction when needed.
- Provides consultative services to local health officials concerning code requirements & safety practices.
- Informs owner &/or contractor of violations of plumbing codes & standards on their structures or approved plans.
- Recommends options to meet requirements & offers assistance to alleviate problems.
- Reviews construction documents approved by the Bureau for new construction, alterations or changes of occupancy to existing facilities.
- Ensures construction documents comply with plumbing codes & all phases of construction follow approved specifications & plans.
- Consults periodically with building owners, architects, contractors & local officials concerning violations found at construction sites or at existing buildings.
- Completes inspection reports electronically (e.g., monthly, expense, activity, vehicle).
- Maintain files of records & information related to plumbing inspections (e.g., annual inspection; licensing & certification).
- Operates motor vehicle to travel throughout the state to learn to inspect buildings.

QualificationsCertified as Plumbing & Medical Gas Inspector; 6 mos. exp. in inspection of plumbing installation & drainage in accordance with state regulations; 6 mos. training or 6 mos. exp. in public relations; valid driver's license.
