The Lighting Designer is responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and executing lighting plans that enhance the visual impact of live events. This role requires both creative vision and technical expertise to deliver high-quality lighting experiences for corporate events, concerts, weddings, and special productions.
Key Responsibilities:- Design and develop creative lighting concepts based on client goals, event themes, and production requirements
- Collaborate with producers, clients, and creative teams to translate vision into technical lighting plans
- Create lighting plots, patching plans, and programming layouts
- Program lighting consoles (e.g., GrandMA, Hog, ETC) for live events and rehearsals
- Oversee load-in, setup, focusing, and load-out of lighting equipment
- Operate lighting systems during live events or supervise lighting operators
- Ensure all lighting equipment is maintained, tested, and used safely
- Manage inventory and recommend rental or purchase of additional equipment as needed
- Stay current on emerging lighting technologies and industry trends
- 2–5+ years of experience in lighting design for live events, theater, or production environments
- Proficiency with lighting consoles and design software (e.g., Vectorworks, Capture, WYSIWYG)
- Strong understanding of DMX protocols, rigging basics, and electrical safety
- Ability to read and create lighting plots and technical diagrams
- Strong artistic sense with attention to detail, color theory, and visual storytelling
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and travel as needed
- Experience in corporate event production or touring productions
- Knowledge of video, staging, and audio integration
- Certification or formal training in technical theater or event production
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working at heights and on ladders or lifts
- Ability to stand, walk, and work long hours during event execution
- Work both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions
- Travel may be required for off-site events
