Education Level: Bachelor’s degree required, AP Experience and master’s degree preferred
Job Description and Qualifications
The Upper School Social Studies Teacher will teach up to five sections of social studies, including AP US History and AP European History. Candidates for this position should have a passion for their content area and have a desire to grow as instructors and mentors of students.
- Uphold professional obligations both in and out of the classroom, including but not limited to assigned duties, meetings, parent conferences, in-service training, and school events
- Contribute to a positive faculty culture by building collaborative, collegial, and respectful relationships with colleagues and overtly supporting fellow teachers and administrators
- Maintain professional standards of appearance, courtesy, responsiveness, discretion, punctuality, and attendance and demonstrate a high standard of personal character and conduct at all times
- Consistently demonstrate appropriate planning and preparation for instruction specifically adapted to the instructional needs of each student and each class
- Maintain academic and behavioral standards and expectations for all students
- Demonstrate through words and deeds a genuine commitment to Christ Episcopal School, its mission, its students, its faculty, and its leadership
- Contribute to a safe, supportive school environment for both students and parents by acting with compassion and integrity in all situations, while at the same time maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Model the mission, philosophy, and goals of the school to all staff, parents, students, and the community
- Possess a deep understanding of specified content and expectations
- Ability to engage students in dynamic and discussion-based learning experiences
- Knowledge of learning differences and the ability to differentiate instruction in the classroom based on those needs
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form
- Analytical approach to curriculum, instructional methods, and students
- Flexibility as it relates to classroom management, pacing of curriculum, and student expectations
- Compassion for students, parents, and colleagues
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Upper School Division Head and the Head of School
