Overview

At Ochsner Health, this role assesses patients and safely performs PET procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols. Serves as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students. This position will also float to cover nuclear medicine when needed.

Education

Required - Completion of an approved nuclear medicine program.

Work Experience

Required - None.

Preferred - Positron emission technology experience.

Certifications

Required - Registered in Nuclear Medicine by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or equivalent body as recognized by the American College of Radiology (ACR) or Intersocietal Commission Accreditation Nuclear Medicine Laboratories (ICANL).

Registered in CT by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT), NMTCB, or registry eligible with a temporary work permit that allows the licensed and certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist to work toward the ARRT-CT certification.

Current unrestricted license in the state of practice.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

Skills and Abilities

(KSAs)
  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.

  • Strong interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (on call availability) and travel throughout and between facilities.

Job Duties
  • Verifies physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.

  • Uses radiology information systems to facilitate care.

  • Explains procedure to patient to ensure understanding.

  • Independently operates equipment to complete imaging procedure according to protocol (including placement of IV and administration of radiopharmaceuticals).

  • Reviews patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.

  • Completes timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and performing notification/remediation as warranted.

  • Assists in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).

  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and adapting explanations of services or procedures.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

the constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace can be physically demanding.

Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area and may be exposed to hazardous medications or waste depending on duties.
