Summary
To perform, coordinate, train and supervise staff of the Serology Unit of the Molecular Virology and Sequencing Core (MVSC) laboratory, as well as to liaise with the Quality Assurance (QA) program, students/post docs, collaborators, and visitors in completion of experimental studies for the Serology Unit of the MVSC. The position will include managerial oversight for performance of experimental assays under BSL-2 laboratory conditions, detailed documentation in coordination with QA guidelines, data analysis, and summaries of research data into charts and reports.
The position will also oversee inventory such as reagents, supplies, and stocks for use in experiments as well as samples and equipment inventory and maintenance. The position will be responsible for preparation of and assurance that regulatory documents including but not limited to OSHA, Tulane OEHS, TNBRC Biosafety.
- Aseptic technique, handling of biological specimens, and in vitro cultivation of mammalian cells and infectious virus
- Virologic, immunologic, molecular laboratory assays and use of typical biomedical/microbiological lab equipment
- Computer competence (Word, Excel) and/or use of data analysis software (Prism, Flo Jo, etc.)
- Known supervisory experience with staff and students.
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Ability to complete and pass successfully the required occupational health screening referenced in the University’s Animal Handler Health Surveillance Program on an annual basis.
Required Background Check, Physical, and Drug Screening for Incumbents Who Have Contact or Exposure to Animals or Animal TissuesSelected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended.
Required Education And/or Experience- Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or equivalent and three years of experience in a biomedical research facility.
- M.S. Degree in Microbiology, Immunology, Virology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in a biomedical research facility microbiological research laboratory
- Biomedical laboratory experience with BSL-2 and/or BSL-3 agents and containment
