Must-Have Qualifications (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Operations, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience in production planning, scheduling, or supply chain roles
- Proven experience managing multi-site production schedules
- Strong working knowledge of MRP/ERP systems and production planning tools
- Advanced analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Willingness to travel to manufacturing facilities as needed
Position Overview
The Master Production Scheduler serves as the central planning authority responsible for building, executing, and continuously improving integrated production schedules across multiple manufacturing facilities.
This role ensures alignment between customer demand, plant capacity, material availability, inventory targets, and financial objectives. The position partners closely with Operations, Procurement, Sales, Maintenance, Quality, Finance, and Logistics to provide visibility into constraints, risks, trade-offs, and performance drivers.
This is a high-impact role that directly influences service levels, working capital, production efficiency, and overall financial performance.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop and manage short- and mid-term master production schedules across multiple facilities
- Translate forecasts, customer orders, promotions, and inventory targets into executable production plans
- Balance labor, equipment uptime, maintenance schedules, and capacity constraints
- Maintain rolling 8–12 week schedule visibility to proactively manage risks
- Optimize sequencing and changeovers to reduce cost and inefficiencies
- Manage FG, WIP, and excess & obsolete inventory to protect service levels while optimizing working capital
- Establish and maintain safety stock strategies based on demand variability and lead times
- Identify and mitigate risks related to shortages, excess, and obsolescence
- Quantify financial impacts including carrying costs, write-offs, COGS, and service trade-offs
- Identify bottlenecks and capacity constraints across facilities
- Develop mitigation plans for material shortages, downtime, labor constraints, and demand volatility
- Conduct scenario planning and cost vs. service trade-off analysis
- Maintain rolling and annual capacity models in collaboration with Operations and Finance
- Partner with Procurement to ensure timely raw material and packaging availability
- Collaborate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and Regulatory to align production with plant realities
- Provide Sales and Customer Service with visibility into lead times and constraints
- Serve as a trusted advisor to plant leadership and executive management
- Understand key manufacturing cost drivers including utilization, downtime, changeovers, scrap, and yield loss
- Support S&OP by aligning production plans with forecasts, budgets, and demand variability
- Recommend financially sound decisions regarding overtime, backorders, or production adjustments
- Quantify financial impact of promotions, seasonal demand, and short-term shifts
- Drive improvements in forecast accuracy, scheduling efficiency, inventory turns, and throughput
- Apply Lean, Six Sigma, or CI tools to strengthen planning processes
- Support quality, food safety, and HACCP initiatives as required
- Develop and track KPIs related to schedule adherence, service, inventory, and capacity
