Overview
The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse – Nurse Practitioner and the Physician Assistant provide care for hospitalized patients as part of the Hospitalist team many Health System. They work in collaboration with and under the supervision of the Lead Hospital Medicine physician and participate in evaluation, treatment and care coordination. A formal collaborative/supervising physician agreement is required.
WORK SHIFT7 pm - 7 am shift
RESPONSIBILITIES(Nurse Practitioner)
- Addressing patient clinical issues while hospitalized
- Perform and document a history and physical (H&P) that is co-signed by the physician within 24 hours
- Place orders for appropriate diagnostic and treatment modalities as part of the care plan
- Follow up on diagnostic test results
- Seek appropriate specialty and sub-specialty consultations
- Formalize the patient handoff process as part of continuity of care
- Maintain effective communication with patients, families, and care team colleagues
- Perform and document a Discharge Summary that is co-signed by the physician within 24 hours
(Physician Assistant)

- Minimum Masters Prepared:
Curriculum must include didactic in clinical experience in Acute Care - Current Louisiana Registered Nurse License (RN)
- Current Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Licensure in Louisiana (APRN)
- Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana as approved by St. Tammany Health System
(Physician Assistant)
- Minimum Masters Prepared:
Curriculum must include didactic in clinical experience in Acute Care - Current Physician Assistant Licensure in Louisiana (PA)
- Eligible for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana as approved by St. Tammany Health System
Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 50 pounds is required. Must be able to work with a moderate level of noise.
Physical Effort:
Constant (67%-100%) – hearing, seeing;
Frequently (34%-66%) – handling/feeling, talking;
Occasionally (1%-33%) – lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, stooping, crouching, reaching, climbing (stairs, ladders, etc.).
