Licensed Practical Nurse Responsibilities
- Perform, complete, and validate assessments, with particular attention to nutritional status, vital signs, and eating disorder symptoms. Administer and document vital signs, BMI calculations, nutritional intake, meal monitoring, fall assessments/precautions, suicidal/homicidal assessments, pain scales, anxiety scales, standard and infection control precautions.
- Assess clients with eating disorders and mental health conditions, and assist in medication management with Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Physicians.
- Monitor and document bathroom visits, meal completion, supplement intake, and nutritional compliance.
- Participate in therapeutic meal support and documentation.
- Collaborate with the dietary team to ensure proper implementation of prescribed meal plans.
- Monitor for medical complications related to eating disorders.
- Document weight measurements according to facility protocol and provide direct client care to a diversified population across a continuum of care.
- Collaborate with staff in assessing client needs and creating and implementing a nursing plan of care.
- Aid Utilization Review in communicating pertinent nursing information.
- Design and teach programs for clients/families and aid staff in program implementation.
- Work closely with physicians to provide education and counseling for clients and other organizational health care providers on optimal use of medicines, including proper use and avoidance of over medication.
- Provide nursing care adapted to the individual client's needs based on the nursing process, which includes assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Report observed changes in mental status and/or physical condition.
- Document and report incidents, including medication errors.
- Oversee the medication management system that includes medication planning, storage, ordering, transcribing, administering, monitoring, and evaluating.
- Manage the Medication Administration Record, documenting administration, efficacy, and medication responses.
- Verify the integrity of medications brought into the organization by clients and their families.
- Use the utmost care in protecting the confidentiality of client records in accordance with state and federal laws.
- Understand and adhere to all Eating Disorder Treatment Centers' Policies and Procedures.
- Keep abreast of all pertinent federal and state regulations, laws, and Eating Disorder Treatment Centers' policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
- Work within the scope of practice as determined by licensing board and perform other duties and tasks as appropriate.
Job Requirements
- Licensed Practical Nurse licensure from the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners or another recognized state board with a multi‑state license.
- Completion of required continuing education hours as specified by Louisiana regulations and the state board.
- Preferred:
Experience as a staff nurse in eating disorder treatment, behavioral health, or another residential setting.
