JOB PURPOSE OR MISSION:
The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) will play a critical role in supporting physicians and advanced practice providers while ensuring the smooth clinical operation of our ENT and Allergy specialty clinic. The LPN is responsible for performing a wide range of licensed nursing duties, clinical procedures, patient education, and care coordination activities while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and safety.
The mission of this role is to assist the physician in coordinating care appropriate to the needs of the patient population served, as defined in the department’s scope of service, while functioning within the scope of practice for Licensed Practical Nurses under Louisiana nursing regulations and under the direction and supervision of the physician and practice manager.
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA CRITERIA A:Clinical Competence
- Demonstrates proficiency in performing licensed nursing duties related to ENT and allergy care, including patient assessments, administration of medications, allergy testing support, and diagnostic procedures.
- Adheres to established clinical protocols, physician orders, and nursing standards of practice to ensure safe and effective patient care.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of relevant medical advancements, treatment modalities, nursing standards, and best practices in ENT and allergy care.
Patient Interaction and Communication
- Exhibits excellent communication skills when interacting with patients, demonstrating empathy, active listening, and clear explanations of medical information.
- Ensures patients feel comfortable and well‑informed throughout their interactions, fostering a positive and compassionate patient experience.
- Effectively communicates with colleagues, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to facilitate coordinated patient care.

1. Clinical Support
- Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments involving ear, nose, and throat conditions.
- Perform licensed nursing duties including:
- Administering medications and injections as ordered by the physician or provider.
- Monitoring patient status and responses during and after procedures.
- Preparing patients for examinations and clinical treatments.
- Provide clinical documentation support by scribing for the physician, accurately documenting patient encounters, histories, physical findings, assessments, and treatment plans in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Assist physicians during in‑office ENT procedures and minor surgeries, which may include preparation of instruments, patient positioning, maintaining a sterile field when appropriate, and assisting with procedures such as:
- Cerumen removal
- Nasal endoscopy
- Epistaxis management
- Biopsies
- Myringotomy procedures
- Foreign body removal
- Prepare and maintain procedure trays and ENT‑specific equipment, ensuring instruments are sterilized and ready for use.
