The Public Safety Coordinator is an unarmed non‑uniformed position that will assist the Director and Manager of Public Safety with administrative duties. The role will be responsible for public safety initiatives and functions such as security technology, including access control, surveillance and investigations, panic buttons and alarms, visitor management and weapons detection. The coordinator will also collaborate with Public Safety leaders across shifts to ensure all colleagues receive training in accordance with STHS Public Safety policies and procedures.
Responsibilities include preparing security department statistics, running monthly and quarterly incident reports, maintaining the property room, ordering equipment and uniforms, and managing inventory. The coordinator will oversee parking and transportation contracts, coordinate security services for all off‑site locations, deliver de‑escalation and taser training, and work with external vendors to maintain firearm certifications. The role may also perform supervisory duties, respond to emergencies, and enforce all security policies and procedures.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate’s degree in criminal justice or information technology preferred.
- Ability to read, write and follow written or oral instructions.
- 5+ years of security‑related experience required; security technology experience preferred.
- 2+ years of security‑related supervisory experience preferred.
- No felony convictions.
- Certified Healthcare Security Officer certification from the International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety preferred or must be obtained within the first 90 days; advanced certification within the first year.
- Ownership of a privately owned cellular phone for emergencies and on‑call events.
- Eligibility to work 8‑hour shifts, Monday‑Friday days or nights, including weekends as needed.
- Valid, current state‑issued driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance at own expense.
- Successful criminal and driving record background check before hiring and annually thereafter, with no disqualifying history.
- Desired experience in law enforcement, military, corrections or security; training in conflict resolution and de‑escalation desirable.
- Good physical health; standing, sitting or walking for long periods.
- Lifting at least 100 pounds.
- Constant effort (67%‑100%): talking, hearing, seeing.
- Frequent effort (34%‑66%): balancing, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling.
- Occasional effort (1%‑33%): lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling, climbing stairs, ladders, crawling.
